چکیده

Segmented block copolymers based on dimerized fatty acids and poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) have been synthesized in the melt. Branched C36, C44 and C70 dimerized fatty acids with a low degree of unsaturation were used. The fraction of PBT was varied from 50 to 100 wt%. The resulting polymers were analysed with d.s.c, and d.m.a. The glass transition temperature (T~) increased with increasing weight fraction of PBT. T~ decreased with increasing molecular mass of the dimerized fatty acid. The melting temperature increased with increasing weight fraction of PBT and increasing molecular mass of the dimerized fatty acid. The range of service temperatures of the thermoplastic elastomers can therefore be enlarged by using dimerized fatty acid with a high molecular mass. With increasing molecular mass of the dimerized fatty acid the storage modulus and the melting and crystallization enthalpy did not change significantly. The storage modulus can be described as a function of the volume fraction of crystalline PBT, but is not a function of the type of dimerized fatty acid.

Compatibilization of polycarbonate/poly (ethylene terephthalate) blends by addition of their transesterification product

In this study, poly carbonate (PC) and poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) were reactive melt-blended under two different conditions to produce PC/PET copolymers. For each condition, samples were taken at specified mixing times representative a specific structure of copolymers and each one employed to physically compatibilize a PC/PET blend with a fixed composition. Reactive blending and copoly...

Synthesis and properties of PBT - b - PIB : E

Segmented block copolymers of polyisobutylene (PIB) and poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) were made by condensation polymerization of ~,og-di-anhydride telechelic PIB, with 1,4-butanediol and dimethyl terephthalate. The inherent viscosity of the polymers was between 0.35 and 2.0 dl g1. The extractability of the polymers with hexane was studied. The thermal behaviour of these polymers was studi...

Biodegradable Starch - Based Films Containing Saturated Fatty Acids : Thermal , Infrared And Raman Spectroscopic Characterization

Biodegradable films of thermoplastic starch and poly (butylene adipate co-terephthalate) (PBAT) containing fatty acids were characterized thermally and with infrared and Raman spectroscopies. The symmetrical character of the benzene ring in PBAT provided a means to illustrate the difference between these spectroscopic techniques, because a band appeared in the Raman spectrum but not in the infr...

Synthesis and Characterization of Cycloaliphatic and Aromatic Polyester/poly(dimethylsiloxane) Segmented Copolymers

(ABSTRACT) Linear thermoplastic polyesters are commonly used in high volume applications such as food containers, films and textile fibers. The physical and mechanical properties of these materials are well documented and are a function of chemical structure and morphology (e.g. semi-crystalline, amorphous, etc.). Polyesters, as are many organic polymers, are quite flammable. Polydimethylsiloxa...

Preparation and Properties of Polycaprolactone/Poly (Butylene Terephthalate) Blend

Polycaprolactone (PCL) and poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) blend was prepared by melt processing. The PCL/PBT blend showed similar morphology with that of pure PCL.The crystallization temperature of PCL was increased by the incorporation of PBT. It was also observed that the peak height in the DSC thermograms decreased and then disappeared by adding 40 % or more PBT which might be due to...
